THREE BLACK MEN, MICHAEL DAVIS, RAPHAEL
ROWE AND RANDOLPH JOHNSON were freed after 10 years in prison for
murder and armed robberies they did not commit and after witnesses
had initially described the suspects as white. A court recently ruled
that there had been "a profoundly disturbing" conspiracy
between the police and a key informant. No charges of perjury have
been brought against the culprits.
DIFFERENTIAL JUSTICE - A black family
doctor has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following the
drug-related death of an addict. He has also been suspended from medical
practice. At about the same time a white doctor was told that he would
face no charges over the drug-related deaths of five of his addicted
patients.
FORMER SOLDIER ANDREW EVANS, 45, wrongly
convicted of murdering a teenage girl in 1972, has been awarded almost
£1 million for the 25 years he spent in jail.
POLICE RE-WROTE 'CONFESSION' OF ACCOUNTANT
WRONGLY JAILED
An accountant who was convicted of
prejudicing a police investigation has had his conviction quashed
after it was ruled that part of his confession has been re-written
by a police officer.
Mohammed Yusuf Patel was sentenced
to four years at Snaresbrook Crown Court in 1987 for allegedly prejudicing
an international drugs investigation. He served 28 months in prison
before being released in April 1990. His life has been ruined.
